Bio

No longer at NTI, Carter B. Bates was director of digital communication and responsible for the Nuclear Threat Initiative’s digital strategy, leading efforts in web development, digital and social media outreach, and content development.

Bates is an accomplished communicator in the national security space. While a senior associate at Reingold, Inc, a strategic communications consulting firm in Alexandria, VA, Bates served as a consultant for the Department of Defense’s Medical Countermeasure Systems (MCS) and Defense Health Headquarters (DHHQ), as well as the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). During the 2014 West African Ebola Outbreak, Bates assisted in coordinating communications efforts for MCS, a key advanced developer for Ebola-related vaccines and therapeutics. Bates prepared media statements, developed talking points in coordination with interagency and industry partners, and led the development of strategic communication materials. Bates also served as the project manager for the award winning Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation communication campaign at the Department of Veterans Affairs, developing strategic communication and web products as the office rolled out tools and materials to help enhance VA’s care delivery model.

Bates holds a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from the University of Georgia, and is currently pursuing his Master of Business Administration degree from Johns Hopkins University Carey School of Business .
