Erin Dumbacher

Program Officer, Scientific and Technical Affairs

Erin D. Dumbacher joined NTI as a Program Officer for the Scientific and Technical Affairs program in September 2017. In this role, she works to strengthen cybersecurity for nuclear weapons systems and facilities and to improve nuclear materials security globally through the NTI Nuclear Security Index.

Prior to joining NTI, Dumbacher was a research leader and director at CEB, a research and advisory firm, where she developed primary research studies and best practices to improve financial services executives’ global operations. Dumbacher authored papers and advised on automation, applying Lean management principles to service operations, talent management, supply chain efficiency, as well as organizational change and restructuring initiatives. From 2007-2012, she served in corporate strategy and research management roles at Atlantic Media, supporting The Atlantic, National Journal, and Government Executive publications and leading Government Executive Media Group’s first in-house research division. Erin also held positions on the Cyber and National Security team of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget and supported appropriations, national security policy, and public affairs work for U.S. Congressman Cramer of Alabama’s 5th District.

Dumbacher received a master’s degree in conflict management and international economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a bachelor’s degree in international affairs from the Elliott School at the George Washington University. She was a visiting student at the Warsaw School of Economics in Warsaw, Poland and the Free University of Berlin, Germany. In 2010, she served as a Fulbright research Fellow in Tallinn, Estonia, where she studied the role information technology played in Estonia’s post-communist transition.
