Michael Douglas is an award-winning actor/producer with over 40 years of experience in the entertainment industry. He first came to prominence co-starring with Karl Malden in one of the most popular series of the 70"s "The Streets of San Francisco."

Douglas is recognized for frequently selecting projects that reflect his interest in a broad range of public concerns and social mores. Over the span of his career he has chosen such politically influential and controversial motion pictures as "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,""The China Syndrome,""Falling Down,""Wall Street" and "Traffic," as well as films with a wider popular appeal such as "Fatal Attraction,"”Romancing the Stone,""Basic Instinct," "The War of the Roses" and "The American President."

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was the winner of 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture, and Douglas won the Best Actor Oscar for his performance in "Wall Street."
 
His 1979 film "The China Syndrome," released just days before the accident at Three Mile Island, catalyzed a lifelong involvement in nuclear issues. In 1999, Secretary General Kofi Annan named him a United Nations Messenger of Peace with a focus on nuclear nonproliferation and small arms control. Mr. Douglas has been working steadily on making this a nuclear weapon-free world since then.

He is a board member of Ploughshares Fund; narrated NTI's film "Nuclear Tripping Point"; recently spearheaded the Global Zero video awareness campaign to lower the number of nuclear weapons and has actively supported many artistic, social and environmental advocacy groups, including The Brady Center; The Cancer Research Institute; Global Green; The American Film Institute; The UN Association; The Center for Non-Proliferation Studies; and The Motion Picture and Television Fund.  He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Douglas has received numerous awards for his artistic and public work including the 2009 AFI Lifetime Achievement Award; the 2010 New York Film Society's Charlie Chaplin Award; The Humanitarian Award from the Simon Wiesenthal Center; the Christopher Reeves Foundation Honor and the Courage Award from Cedars-Sinai Research for Women's Cancers.

Douglas is married to actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and they have two children. He also has another son from a previous marriage.
