Cesium and Strontium Found at a Tbilisi Scrap Metal Collection Point

Abstract:

On 7 September 2009, the Georgian Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources announced the discovery of four sources of cesium-137 and strontium-90 at a Tbilisi scrap metal receiving site during a routine pre-export inspection. The sources emitted radiation of 3 millisieverts per hour, which the Ministry said was not harmful to the residents living far from the site.[1] Nevertheless, the radioactive substances were placed in special containers and transported to an undisclosed, secure location for further investigation. {Entered AE}
