Trial of uranium rod thieves to begin in Udmurtia

Abstract:

In January 2008, a court in Russia’s Udmurtia Republic was reportedly set to begin deliberations in a case of theft of uranium rods that took place in September 2007. Five individuals (names unknown, born in 1957, 1965, 1978, and 1981) were apprehended by law enforcement authorities after the group allegedly stole 30.7 kilograms of uranium rods from their workplace, an enterprise in the region.They reportedly intended to re-sell the rods. The five men are being charged with theft nuclear materials under paragraph 1 of Article 221 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. {Entered 09/23/08 AL}
