Dubai Becomes First Middle East Port to Participate in U.S. Container Security Initiative

All cargo being shipped to the United States from the United Arab Emirates port at Dubai would now be prescreened under supervision from U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials, the State Department announced yesterday (see GSN, Oct. 20).

Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corp. is the sixth-largest port operator in the world. Dubai is the first Middle East port to join the U.S. Container Security Initiative, which now includes more than 30 ports around the world, according to the statement (State Department release, Dec. 13).
