Tokyo CW Attacker Appeal Opens Today

A former senior Aum Shinrikyo cult member sentenced to death in January for his role in the deadly 1995 Tokyo subway sarin gas attack is expected to have his appeal heard by the Tokyo High Court beginning today, Kyodo reported (see GSN, Nov. 14).

Masami Tsuchiya was one of 11 people to receive the death penalty in connection with the assault, which resulted in 13 casualties. 

Tsuchiya’s defense team claimed he had not known deadly weapons would be used in the attack (Kyodo/Yahoo!News, Nov. 29).
