Fire Breaks Out at Pine Bluff Arsenal

A small fire broke out yesterday in a containment room of Pine Bluff Arsenal in Arkansas while technicians were destroying a rocket once filled with GB nerve agent, the Associated Press reported (see GSN, Nov. 22).

The fire, which lasted less than a minute, posed no threat to workers, the environment or people who live close to the facility, according to authorities. None of the nerve agent escaped during the incident, according to an arsenal press statement.

Arsenal officials said the cause of the fire is being investigated (Associated Press/WREG, Nov. 29).
