Russia Declares All 2005 Missile Tests Successful

Russia had no unsuccessful strategic missile tests this year, according to an official statement (see GSN, Nov. 29).

“The Strategic Purpose Missile Force is combat-ready and capable of solving set tasks in any conditions,” the missile service said in a press statement.

The force formed two missile divisions and more than 20 new units this year, according to the press statement.

“We managed to keep up to 70 percent of officers whose posts had to be cut. Over 82 percent of officers now say they want to prolong their contracts,” the statement said. “In the conditions of a dynamically developing military and political situation, the force is an effective guarantor of nuclear deterrence against possible threats to Russia's security” (RIA Novosti, Nov. 30).
