New Work to Begin Next Year at Colorado CW Depot From Friday, December 9, 2005 issue.

New Work to Begin Next Year at Colorado CW Depot

Preliminary construction is expected to begin next summer on buildings around the planned site of a chemical weapons destruction plant in Colorado, the Pueblo Chieftain reported (see GSN, Nov. 17).

Also, a congressional conference committee is soon expected to review the fiscal 2006 defense authorization bill that boosts spending for chemical weapons neutralization sites at the Pueblo Chemical Depot in Colorado and the Blue Grass Army Depot from $30 million to more than $50 million. This money could be spent on research and development or construction at the sites, according to the Chieftain.

Any new work at Pueblo is not expected to begin until after February when lead contractor Bechtel plans an estimate for the cost of work over the life of the weapons disposal facility.

Pueblo County Public Works Director Greg Severance said that work on the extension of a road at the site could begin next summer or fall (John Norton, Pueblo Chieftain, Dec. 8).
