Newport Reportedly Begins Preoperation Tests

The Newport Chemical Agent Disposal Facility in Indiana was set to begin a 45-day period of preoperation tests Friday, according to the Terre Haute Tribune-Star (see GSN, Feb. 16).

The tests are necessary for the facility to obtain final approval to begin the destruction of its VX stockpiles. The U.S. Army would neither confirm nor deny that tests began Friday, the Tribune-Star reported (Patricia Pastore, Terre Haute Tribune-Star, Feb. 25).
