Additional Postal Sites Receive Anthrax Detectors

An anthrax detection system has been installed at a U.S. Postal Service mail-sorting facility in Anchorage, Alaska, the Associated Press reported yesterday (see GSN, May 24).

A postal office in Tallahassee, Fla., has also received the Biohazard Detection System, which can detect anthrax in mail without disrupting delivery, the Tallahassee Democrat reported Saturday.

“We decided that we needed to do something to detect anthrax quickly in order to protect our employees and the public,” said Postal Service spokesman Joseph Breckenridge (Vineta Woodum, Tallahassee Democrat, May 28).
