Kazakhstan Looks to Join Biological Weapons Treaty


The Kazakh Senate International Affairs, Defense and Security Committee is pressing to have the nation join the Biological Weapons Convention, the Times of Central Asia reported Saturday (see GSN, Dec. 1, 2005).

The Stepnogorsk Biocomplex and other former Soviet laboratories that conducted biological weapons research are located in Kazakhstan (Times of Central Asia, Jan. 7).
