Czech PM Doubts Country to House Missile Defense

Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek said he does not expect that his nation will house the planned U.S. missile defense installation in Europe, the Czech News Agency reported yesterday  (see GSN, Sept. 21).

“The missile base will probably not be based in our country.  And if so, it would be only a radar base with which 60 percent of citizens agree,” he said.

The location of the new base is not expected to be selected this year, Topolanek said.  Poland is believed to be the other leading contender to house the base (Czech News Agency, Oct. 15).
