Japan Begins to Receive PAC-3 Missile Interceptors

The United States has begun the process of deploying advanced missile interceptors in Japan and plans to have them operational by March, Agence France-Presse reported Saturday (see GSN, Aug. 24).

Components of the Patriot Advanced Capability 3 system began arriving Saturday at Okinawa where they will be operated by 600 U.S. personnel now based at Fort Bliss, Texas, according to AFP.

U.S. military sources said the 24-missile system would become partially operational in December and fully working in March, Kyodo News reported (Agence France-Presse/Yahoo!News, Sept. 30).
