Russian Missile Fails Another Test From Thursday, October 26, 2006 issue.

Russian Missile Fails Another Test

A second Russian experimental Bulava ballistic missile failed yesterday during a test launch, the Associated Press reported (see GSN, Sept. 13).

The missile deviated from its flight course minutes after being fired from the Dmitry Donskoi nuclear submarine in the White Sea.  The Bulava self-destructed and its pieces fell into the water, according to the Russian navy.

Russia conducted two successful test flights of the Bulava in 2005.  However, a missile went off course and crashed into the sea during a test in September.

The latest failure could indicate that the Bulava program faces significant troubles, according to AP (Associated Press/The Moscow Times, Oct. 26).
