Pentagon Certifies Two More Civil Support Teams

Two additional National Guard Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Teams have been officially certified, the U.S. Defense Department announced yesterday (see GSN, Nov. 30).

The 54th WMD-CST, based in Madison, Wis., and the 72nd WMD-CST, in Lincoln, Neb., are now prepared to assist authorities in responding to a WMD attack, the department said in a press statement.

The units are two of the 12 authorized in fiscal 2004. There are now 36 certified teams. Congress has authorized a total of 55, the last of which is expected to be certified by March of next year (U.S. Defense Department release, Feb. 8).
