Russia Plans Mobile ICBM Deployment This Year

Russia plans this year to deploy the first mobile regiment of its most modern ICBM, the Topol-M, RIA Novosti reported last week (see GSN, Jan. 31). Five regiments of silo-based Topol-Ms have been deployed to date, according to the missile’s chief designer, Yuri Solomonov, director of the Institute of Thermal Technology (see GSN, April 14). He said the missile was 15-20 years ahead of technology available in other nations (RIA Novosti, April 13).
