Russian Lawmakers Back Nuclear Terror Convention From Monday, September 25, 2006 issue.

Russian Lawmakers Back Nuclear Terror Convention

Russia’s upper house of parliament today approved the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism, following the lower house’s passage last week (see GSN, Sept. 18).

The treaty, approved by all 143 members present at the Federation Council session, would criminalize the possession of nuclear materials for terrorist purposes as well as attacks against nuclear facilities (Associated Press/International Herald Tribune, Sept. 25).
