U.S. Tests Missile Interceptor Rocket Motor

The United States has successfully tested a rocket motor for a missile interceptor that is intended to shoot down enemy missiles shortly after they launch, the U.S. Missile Defense Agency announced yesterday (see GSN, Feb. 13).

Technicians conducted a static firing of a first-stage rocket motor for the Kinetic Energy Interceptor program.  The test was the second of five planned motor ground tests.  Officials plan to conduct the first flight test next year (U.S. Missile Defense Agency release, June 14).
