U.S. Plans II: Lockheed and Boeing Will Head Integration U.S. defense contractors Lockheed Martin and Boeing will head a new team of engineers to integrate various missile defense development programs into one cohesive whole, the Wall Street Journal reported today (see related GSN story, today). Boeing will be in charge of the integration of about a dozen missile defense systems and Lockheed will build a single battle management system to facilitate the integration, sources familiar with the plan said. Contract negotiations are still ongoing, but a formal announcement on the plan is expected by next month, they said. The new team will report to the U.S. Defense Department’s newly created Missile Defense Agency, formerly known as the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (see GSN, Jan. 9). The team is to be divided into two groups of 150 engineers each, the Journal reported. The engineers are to come from several defense contractors, including Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, General Dynamics and TRW. Lockheed and Boeing will each head one team (Anne Marie Squeo, Wall Street Journal, Jan. 11).
