Pakistan:  Officials Freeze Scientist’s Assets

Pakistan froze the bank assets of two nuclear scientists alleged to have connections to suspected terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden and his al-Qaeda network, Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported today (see GSN, Jan. 30).

The decision to freeze the assets of Sultan Bashiru-din Mehmood and Chaudry Abdul Majid came after the U.N. Security Council recommended it, according to Dawn.  The council last week issued an updated list of individuals and entities associated with the Taliban or al-Qaeda and called for action against them (Arshad Sharif, Dawn, Jan. 31).
