Russia:  Ukraine to Sell SS-19 Missiles

Ukraine plans to begin selling former Soviet SS-19 intercontinental ballistic missiles to Russia before the end of the year, ITAR-Tass reported today (see GSN, Aug. 21).  Sales of all the SS-19s are expected to be completed in 2003.

Russia’s Khrunichev space research and production center plans to use the missiles to launch satellites, said Eduard Kuznetsov, deputy director general of the Ukrainian National Space Agency (see GSN, June 21).  The center has designed a space launch vehicle, the Rokot, based on the SS-19 (Vitaly Matarykin, ITAR-Tass, Oct. 10).
