Russia:  United States Awards Russian Disarmament Contracts

The U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency awarded two contracts to the Washington Group International to dispose of Russian ballistic missiles and build facilities to support other disarmament work there, the company said Oct. 17 (see GSN, March 5).

The work comes under the $5 billion U.S. Cooperative Threat Reduction Integrating Contract.  The Washington Group received an $81 million contract to destroy SS-24 ICBMs and a $3 million contract to upgrade missile destruction facilities and build storage facilities for up to 144 SS-25 ICBMs.

The company has already disposed of over 165 missiles and built several related facilities in Russia and Ukraine (Space & Missile, Oct. 24).
