Iraq: Croatia Captures Ship Headed For Iraq With Scud Parts Croatia intercepted a ship on its way to Iraq from Yugoslavia this week carrying material suspected to be used for Scud missiles, Reuters reports (see GSN, Oct. 15). “There is evidence that the military equipment on the seized ship was headed for Iraq,” a police source said. Croatian authorities brought the Boka Star into the Adriatic port of Rijeka and unloaded 14 containers. Four of the containers have a powdered substance which authorities suspect is used in Scud missile ignition. The ship was seized with help from the United States and NATO (Reuters/Boston Globe, Oct. 25).
