Anthrax:  Forest Search Uncovers Few Clues Into Attacks

The FBI concluded a six-day search yesterday of a section of forest near Frederick, Md., but failed to discover any new leads into last year’s anthrax attacks, law enforcement sources said (see GSN, Dec. 16).  While the bureau is examining materials that it recovered during the search, sources said they expect to find little useful information.

The FBI conducted the search in response to a tip from someone who had spoken about biological weapons with former U.S. Army biologist Steven Hatfill, who has been the public focus of the bureau’s investigation into the attacks, the Washington Post reported (Washington Post, Dec. 19).
