Uzbekistan:  U.S. Troops Show No Signs of Exposure to Chemical Weapons

After examining all U.S. troops at a military base in Uzbekistan where traces of chemical weapons have recently been detected, medical officials have found no symptoms of exposure, a U.S. military spokesman said Friday (see GSN, June 12).

Officials asked 1,200 U.S. personnel at the Karshi Khanabad base whether they have shown any symptoms since traces of mustard gas and nerve agents were detected, Col. Roger King said.  The officials now plan to examine the records of 1,800 soldiers who have traveled through the base since U.S. forces were deployed there in October, he said.  All U.S. personnel at the base have moved away from contaminated sites (Associated Press/Yahoo.com, June 14).
