U.S. Response II: NRC Increases Reactor Fee to Cover Security Costs The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission last week said it would increase the annual reactor fee levied on nuclear power plants by almost $430,000 to help cover the costs of improving security at the plants (see GSN, March 20). The annual reactor fee will now be $3.28 million, up from the current $2.85 million, the commission said. Last year’s fee increased by only $96,000 (Reuters/Planet Ark, March 31).
