United States: Los Alamos Director Pledges to “Drain the Swamp” Los Alamos National Laboratory Director Pete Nanos yesterday said he would “drain the swamp” at the facility to address security and management concerns, according to the Associated Press (see GSN, July 22). After a number of reviews investigating mismanagement and security concerns, Nanos said that only “several bad apples” were discovered. In an address to laboratory employees, Nanos outlined his priorities for the laboratory, focusing on safety, national security, science and business management, AP reported. “The future is in our hands,” Nanos said. “I’m very bullish about this,” he added (Leslie Hoffman, Associated Press, July 23).
