GMD Flight Test Scheduled for Monday

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency plans to conduct the next flight test of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense system on Monday, agency spokesman Rick Lehner said yesterday (see GSN, Jan. 22).

The test, Integrated Flight Test 13B (IFT-13B), will be the first system-level test to use an interceptor booster developed by U.S. defense contractor Orbital Sciences, according to Aerospace Daily. The test is set to be followed by IFT-13C in March, IFT-14 in May and IFT-15 in July, all of which will use the Orbital Sciences booster. IFT-14 and IFT-15 will be intercept tests, Aerospace Daily reported (Marc Selinger, Aerospace Daily, Jan. 23).
