Iran Cannot be Allowed Nuclear Weapons, Blair Says

British Prime Minister Tony Blair yesterday said the United Kingdom and its allies would prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon and urged the country to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Xinhua News Agency reported (see GSN, July 21).

“It is not acceptable that Iran has a nuclear weapons capability, and that is why we are working with our other partners to make sure that it doesn’t,” Blair said. “We will do whatever we can and whatever is necessary to ensure that Iran obeys the very clear statements that have been made by the atomic energy authority,” he added (Xinhua, July 22).
