Lugar to Meet With Libyan Officials

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Richard Lugar (R-Ind.) is scheduled to travel to Libya on behalf of U.S. President George W. Bush to discuss normalizing relations between Tripoli and Washington, the White House announced yesterday (see GSN, May 31).

The relationship between the two countries has been improving since Libya agreed to pay a settlement over the 1988 bombing of Pan Am flight 103 and renounced weapons of mass destruction two years ago, Agence France-Presse reported (Agence France-Presse/Yahoo!News, Aug. 18).
