Located in Beijing, CZEC is involved in international economic and technical cooperation in the nuclear field. It provides technical services and engineering work, and contracts building projects. Following the restructuring of CNNC, CZEC was spun-off from China National Nuclear Corporation as an independent company.

CZEC is the primary contractor for Pakistan's Chashma power reactor project (CHASNUPP). It is also involved in projects in Jordan and Algeria. CZEC's subsidiaries include:
