Institute of Nuclear Energy Technology (INET)

核能技术设计研究院

DIRECTOR: Wu Zongxin, Professor

OTHER NAMES: Nuclear Energy Research Institute, the Nuclear Energy Technology Research and Design Institute, and the Nuclear Technology Design Research College

LOCATION: Qinghua (Tsinghua) University, Beijing.

INET conducts research, development, and training in nuclear technology. Currently conducting the research and development of a high temperature, gas cooled experimental reactor (HTGR).  Built and operates a 5 MW low temperature nuclear heating reactor. Currently constructing a 200 MW nuclear heating reactor. Began construction of a 10 MW experimental HTGR reactor in June 1995.  Thermal testing of the experimental reactor began in December 2000, with over 100 safety tests conducted since that time.  Full-scale power generation began in early 2003.

INET is also involved in the research and development of techniques for processing highly radioactive liquid wastes.
