DEPUTY GENERAL MANAGER: Zeng Wenxing
PROJECT MANAGER: Yan Bomin

LOCATION: Daya Bay, Shenzhen, Guangdong

Established in October 1995, the Ling Ao Nuclear Power Company is located one kilometer east of the Daya Bay nuclear power plant.  China is building two 900 MWe reactors supplied by the French company Framatome.  Construction began on 15 May 1997 on Ling Ao-1, with work on the containment being completed in April 1999.  On the night of 8 December 2001 Ling Ao-1 started trial operations. It was incorporated into the Guangdong power grid on 26 February 2002, and began commercial operations on 28 May 2002. The Ling Ao-2 fuel load was completed on 18 July 2002, and is scheduled to begin operation in March 2003. The total project is estimated to cost US $4 billion.

The first indigenously produced reactor core in China was completed in August 2000 and will be installed at the Ling Ao nuclear power plant.  Xinhua News Agency reported that the core is manufactured from a special type of stainless steel.  The core is 11 meters long, four meters wide and weights 127 tons.  The core's tolerances are reported to be only 0.1 millimeters.  The production of the reactor was undertaken by the Shanghai No. 1 Machine and Tool Works in cooperation with the French Framatome Group.  Total joint investment for the reactor core is estimated to be US $12 million.
