The SSTC is a ministerial-level body under the State Council that studies issues of science and technology related to the development and restructuring of China's technology industry. It is responsible for the funding of major science and technology projects.
The SSTC directs China's National High-tech Development Program (Project 863), and runs the China National Remote Sensing Center (CNRSC).
