Non NPT States with Nuclear Weapons
DPRK may possess enough separated plutonium to produce 4 to 13 nuclear weapons.
DPRK conducted an underground nuclear test on October 9, 2006;
Declared possession of nuclear weapons in February 2005;

Disarmament commitment
- Announced withdrawal from the NPT in 2003.
- State party to PTBT, has not signed the CTBT.
Nuclear Weapons Policies:
North Korea has been in
violation of the NPT since 1985 and it declared its withdrawal from the
treaty in January 2003. Efforts have been made to resolve the nuclear issues
through the Six-Party Talks. On September 19, 2005, the Six Parties signed a
Statement of Principles whereby DPRK agreed to abandon all nuclear programs
and return to the NPT and restore IAEA safeguards. North Korea's intentions
are unpredictable and there has been no concrete progress so far
