BACKGROUND:
The High Energy Physics Institute (HEPI) was created in 1979 from the High Energy Physics Laboratory of the Physics Department, originally established in the early 1960s, at Tbilisi State University.  HEPI employs about 100 people, half of whom are physicists.

ACTIVITIES:
Research activities at HEPI include experimental research in high energy particle physics, experimental studies in heavy ion collision, theoretical research on high energy particle physics and quantum field theory, and theoretical studies in nuclear physics.  HEPI cooperates closely with Russia's Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, the High Energy Physics Institute in Protvino near Moscow, and other intstitutes.

Relativistic Nuclear Physics
Satellite Communication and Computer Networks
Experimental Mechanical Shops
