This reactor was commissioned in 1970 and underwent reconstruction in 1975.
The State Specialized Design Institute
designed the reactor. The All-Russian
Scientific Research Institute of Experimental Physics (VNIIEF) was the
chief constructor of the reactor.[1] In June 1998 the
reactor was shut down and the reactor core containing 71 fuel assemblies was
placed in an on-site storage pool. In September 1999, the spent fuel was shipped
to the Mayak
reprocessing plant.[2]
