FIAN is the leading institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences in fundamental
physics research.
It employs 300 research professionals, 150 supporting professionals, 90
technicians, and over 3,500 others. Key areas of
research at FIAN include: quantum radiophysics, non-linear optics, and
optoelectronics; new types of quantum generators and ultra-short pulse lasers;
laser technologies, including laser fusion, laser ranging of cosmic objects, laser
interaction with matter, and laser applications in chemistry, biology and
medicine; solid-state, astro-nuclear, and theoretical physics.
