MIPT was founded in 1951. It trains specialists in
various fields of science and technology, including nuclear physics. The Institute has about 1400
full- and part-time faculty members and over 4000 students.
MIPT has eight departments:
Department of Radio Engineering and Cybernetics
Department of General and Applied Physics (conducts
research on thermonuclear physics, solid-state physics, high-energy physics, particle physics, mathematical modeling of nuclear processes)
Department of Aerodynamics and Cosmic Research
Department of Molecular and Biological Physics
(conducts research on thermonuclear physics)
Department of Physical and Quantum Electronics
Department of Aeromechanics and Aircraft Equipment
Department of Applied Mathematics and Economics (conducts
mathematical
modeling of nuclear reactor operations)
Department of Physics and Energy Issues (conducts research on nuclear
physics, particle physics, nuclear safety)
