Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident--This convention requires state parties to notify the affected States and the IAEA of nuclear accidents that could result in an international transboundary radiation release that could affect the radiological safety of other States. Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency--This convention provides an international framework for co-operation, support and rapid assistance from States Parties and the IAEA in case of nuclear accidents or radiological emergencies. Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage (INFCIRC/500)--This convention was adopted on 21 May 1963 under the auspices of IAEA and entered into force on 12 November 1977.  The Convention establishes a regime of civil liability for nuclear damage to third parties aimed at ensuring adequate compensation for nuclear damage. Protocol to Amend the Vienna Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage--This protocol sets the limit of the operator's liability, provides a better definition of nuclear damage, and extends the geographical scope of the Vienna Convention and the time limit during which claims may be brought for loss of life and personal injury.  (Please see the Protocol's full text and status list.)

Joint Protocol Relating to the Application of the Vienna Convention and Paris Convention--This protocol combined the Vienna Convention and the Paris Convention on Third Party Liability in the Field of Nuclear Energy into one expanded liability regime.  (Please see the Protocol's full text and status list.)

Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management--The objectives of this convention are to ensure safety during spent fuel and radioactive waste management through greater international cooperation, to ensure that proper defenses against nuclear accidents are in place, to prevent such accidents from taking place, and to ensure that proper procedures are available to eliminate the aftermath of such accidents.  (Please see the Convention's full text, status list, and declarations/reservations.)
