COMMITTEE ON NATIONAL SECURITY AND DEFENSE

This committee, created immediately after the May 1994 elections, is one of the largest committees in the Rada. It exerts influence over the export control decision-making process.[1,2] It consists of sub-committees that oversee the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Industrial Policy of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the State Committee for Protection of State Borders, and the State Customs Service.[1] Provision of social services to military officers and their family members is among the priorities in the committee's work.[3] As of 11 March 2001, the committee consisted of 21 members.[4]
