Abstract:

According to a U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) press release, the NNSA and the Administration of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (ASBGS) commissioned a new radiation detection checkpoint at the Kuchurgan vehicle border crossing in Ukraine on 21 May 2007.

Under a 2005 agreement, NNSA's Second Line of Defense program assisted the Ukrainian border guard service by holding technical workshops, conducting training, and providing and maintaining radiation detection equipment at border crossings and other points of entry. Through these joint efforts, NNSA has deployed radiation detection equipment at five sites on Ukraine's border with Moldova, including Kuchurgan. NNSA plans to work with Ukraine to equip 25 additional sites in the future.
