Abstract:
On 15 October 2007 border guards from Chop checkpoint (Ukrainian-Hungarian border) detained a railroad car emitting elevated levels of radiation, transiting through Ukraine en route from Italy to Belarus. The railroad car contained 54 metric tons of zirconic ore. Since it lacked the ecological and radiological certificates necessary for transit of radioactive materials via Ukraine, the railroad car with its contents was reportedly sent back to Italy. {Entered 10/30/07 PT}
