Abstract:
During inspection of an aircraft that had arrived from Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, Kazakh customs officers seized a 65-barrel consignment of tantalum concentrate which emitted radiation greater than 4 times the norm. The shipment originated from Niotal Limited of Hong Kong and was addressed to Kazakhstan’s Ulba Metallurgical Combine.[1]
A Kazatomprom statement later clarified that the tantalum concentrate consignment in question had all the necessary certificates for transportation. Moreover, its level of radiation was 100 times lower than the allowable norm for ores and metal concentrates. Thus, the shipment was delivered to its point of destination – the Ulba Metallurgical Combine.[1]
