History: ICAR was set up on 16 July 1929 on the recommendation of the Royal Commission on Agriculture. It was re-organized in 1965, and again in 1973.
Activities: ICAR also runs the Project Directorate of Biological Control. The project brings together the different sectors of the biotech industry to discuss advances made in the industry. It has also been doing research in developing strategies to control Parthenium weed in India.
