History: Founded in 1954 to create penicillin.
Activities: The company is responsible for the development of hamycin for skin infections and aureofungin for plant disease control.
The company entered into a joint venture agreement with M/s Max Gist-Brocades in October 1995. It is also leasing its pilot plant facility to M/s Searle India for the production of daunomycin and is negotiating a joint venture deal for the large-scale manufacture of vitamins B6 and B12. In addition, it has entered into an agreement with Serum Institute of India Limited for the manufacture of a plasma volume expander made from polymerized gelatin under the brand name "Seraccel." It is also currently finalizing an agreement with Elanex Pharmaceuticals in the manufacture of recombinant human erythropoietin omega that is to be sold under the brand name HEMAX. This is to be the first type of plant to be constructed within India.
