Primary Function: An engineering and contracting firm with sectors in design, planning and consultancy.

Description: The Metallurgical & Engineering Consultants (India) Ltd. (MECON) is a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Steel & Mines. The company is a multi-disciplinary enterprise and undertakes design, planning, engineering, consultancy, and engineering activities for clients in the public and private sector. MECON has "12 technological divisions, 15 engineering divisions, 7 special services divisions, 5 equipment and systems design divisions, and 28 regional engineering and project site offices..." Of the 3,250 people employed by the company, 1,600 are qualified engineers and scientists.

Activities:

MECON has actively engaged in the defense sector in "modernizing/revamping existing facilities, installation of new strategically important projects and building research & development establishments." The services rendered by the company include "consultancy, procurement, contract engineering, detailed construction supervision, and management services."

  • MECON has been actively involved in India's Integrated Guided Missile Program and fabricated the "acoustic vibration test facility" for the Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad.
