Description and Activities:
Walchandnagar Industries Limited (WIL) was originally founded in the 1930s and now consists of three major factories in Pune, Satara (Maharashtra), and Attikola (Karnataka). Although these facilities primarily support the heavy industrial sector, WIL also manufacturers critical equipment for Indian nuclear power facilities. These products include calandrias, endshields, thermal shields, fuelling machines, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and distillation columns. WIL has reportedly supplied these materials for the pressurized heavy water reactors (PHWR) in Narora, Kakrapar, and Kaiga. The company has also provided endshields for the Madras Atomic Power Station (MAPS). Due to WIL's involvement with the Indian nuclear sector, it was placed under US export administration regulations (EAR) sanctions following the 1998 nuclear tests. These sanctions had been lifted, however, by November 2001.

In addition to the heavy industry and nuclear sectors, WIL is very active with aerospace defense projects. Production for this sector includes rocket motor casings, nozzles, and hardware for satellite launch vehicle programs.
